Jjaltoon (짤툰), or Jjaltoon Studio (짤툰스튜디오) is a South Korean-based animation studio, best known for comedic slice-of-life animations. Jjaltoon Studio is owned by Jjal Tae-sik (짤태식 Jjal Taesik).
All animations produced by Jjaltoon Studios are distributed by Big Picture Team, a multimedia company based in Seoul, South Korea.
As of 15 October, 2021, Jjaltoon Studio has about 1,47 million subscribers.
Why He's Amazing
- Their animations (recent ones) are very skillfully amazing, nicely-done. They comprise fluid movements, detailed backgrounds and a variety of characters.
- Creative, diverse and innovative storytelling.
- Awkwardly hilarious moments and surprising plot twists.
- Many of his animations often cover situations in which the characters have to deal with, other times they satirize some aspects of South Korean society and lifestyle.
- Memorable characters with stable and frequent appearances, like Professor Roh Gong-man, Private Lim Min-sik, Phone Eun-jung, Uhm Jun-sik the Vet, Park Jung-hwan, Joo Jung-yeon, Chun-sik the Dog, etc.
- Jjaltoon's cover of Ren'ai Circulation and his first video, "Gukbap Addict", gained a cult following.
- Furthermore, Jjaltoon even referenced his cover of Ren'ai Circulation in his animations.
- "Why the hell would you eat [blank]? If you were to eat gukbap, you should try a nice hot bowl of gukbap..."
- All of Jjaltoon's videos are mainly provided with subtitles in 5 different languages (Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese).
- Their webcomics are decent.
- Jjal Tae-sik single-handedly handles all the voice actings.
- However, some female characters are voiced by Jjaltoon's voice actress Sung Hyun-hee.
- As of 15 April, 2021, Jjaltoon has 9 animated series:
- Jjaltoon Original
- Jjaltoon Premium
- Jjaltoon's Three Kingdoms
- Real Jjaltoon
- Military Diary
- The "Manly" Girl
- Satan
- Animal Friends
- Chiktatoon
- Nice references to Korean memes, like "Muyaho"[1].
Bad Qualities
- All characters in older videos look the same, the only differences are the hairstyle and the clothes. Moreover, some characters SHARE the same voice.
- Frequent Korean profanity.
- Jjaltoon Studio reduced the amount of curses later on.
- Some of their videos are really lame, and some are even mean-spirited.
- Ear rapes, especially when the characters are very angry.
- Excessive use of radial blur whenever a character screams.
- Subtitles aren't often proof-read (especially English), leading to unnoticeable grammatical errors.
- To top it off, the translations, despite fitting the context, are pretty weird. It feels like somebody coined new terms and just slapped them on the subtitles.
- The citations in the subtitles are helpful for most of the time. However, some are ridiculously redundant.
- The voice acting starts to become very mediocre in recent videos.[2]
