GameHut is a YouTube Gaming channel run by Jon Burton, the founder of Traveler's Tales, where he shares insight about games he's worked on over the years.

Why He's Amazing

  1. Jon explains game development concepts in ways that are relatively easy to understand despite their high complexity.
  2. His videos often explain how Traveler's Tales pulled off some very clever tricks to do things that would seem impossible for the time, such as the 3D chase sequence in Mickey Mania or the draw distance in Sonic R.
  3. The channel features the process behind the Sonic 3D Blast Director's Cut development and release.
  4. Jon also shares prototypes and early concepts of games, which give insight about some of the design choices and cut content in several games such as mh:awesomegames:Crash Twinsanity.
    1. One of the prototype videos demonstrated that Rascal was initially intended to have traditional controls and a fully functional camera.
  5. There are some tutorials for actual Sega Genesis development.
  6. Occasionally, Jon makes Let's Plays of some of the games he developed with his own commentary about the game.
  7. His 2nd channel SpaceHut is also great for space-related videos.
  8. He's now looking into how other devs pulled off stuff on the Genesis such as the bonus stages in the Sonic games, The technology behind the lock on the technology of Sonic & Knuckles, how Zyrinx's Red Zone pulled off full-screen 360-degree rotation and the first part of Titan's Overdrive mega demo.
  9. He shows some cool never before seen betas of some of the games he worked on and explains why content from that build was altered or removed.
